Wisconsin urging fans to donate to American Red Cross to help Louisiana flood victims
Wisconsin is joining forces with a local Fortune 500 company to help raise money for flood victims in Louisiana.
The Badgers face LSU at Lambeau Field in Green Bay on Saturday, but the school is trying to help people in Louisiana whose homes were damaged by the recent flooding. The school sent a press release Wednesday urging fans to text LAFLOODS to 90999. Each text will donate $10 to the American Red Cross’s relief efforts in Louisiana.
“Our hearts go out to the people affected by flooding in Louisiana,” Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez said in a statement. “When something like this happens, it puts a football game into perspective. Seeing the damage and the many families affected all around the state and within the city of Baton Rouge, we wanted to be able to help in some manner.”
American Family Insurance, which is based in Madison, Wis., has pledged to match donations made Saturday up to $50,000.
Wisconsin will face No. 5 LSU at the home of the Green Bay Packers on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET.
