Wisconsin defeated Green Bay 81-60 on Saturday in one of its stronger offensive performances of the season. The Badgers made their first 11 field goals and never looked back. UW then beat Chicago State 82-70 on Wednesday night.
Five different players scored in double figures against Chicago State, led by Ethan Happ’s 18 points, 12 rebounds and 6 assists. Khalil Iverson scored 17 points, Brad Davison 15, Aleem Ford 13 and Brevin Pritzl 11.
Freshman big man Nate Reuvers continues to produce solid numbers in his role off the bench. Reuvers tallied 6 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 10 minutes Wednesday. He scored 9 points against Green Bay and showcased his skills on both ends when he dunked over an opponent and blocked a shot on the other side of the court.
Badgers freshman walk-on guard Walt McGrory played 15 minutes and wasn’t as effective as he was against Green Bay. McGrory didn’t attempt a shot, missed his lone free-throw attempts and finished with just 1 rebound. He played 21 minutes against Green Bay and recorded 4 points, 6 rebounds and 1 assist. McGrory burned his redshirt one game earlier against Western Kentucky, when he played 2 minutes.
Wisconsin (7-7) is still adjusting without guards Kobe King and D’Mitrik Trice. King underwent left knee surgery and is out for the season. Trice had surgery on his right foot and has yet to begin rehab. The backcourt now consists of Davison and Pritzl as starters, with T.J. Schlundt and McGrory the top reserves.
Wisconsin has played arguably the most difficult schedule in the country. The Badgers have played eight games against teams ranked in the KenPom top 60, most in the nation. Wisconsin also is one of four teams to have played four ranked opponents this season.
The Badgers have been within minutes of winning four of the games they have lost, sitting tied or within two points with two minutes remaining in those games.
UMass Lowell is coming off a 76-73 loss to Central Connecticut. Jahad Thomas led UMass Lowell with 21 points, while Rinardo Perry scored 13. Josh Gantz added 9 points with 8 assists.
UMass Lowell is 6-6 this season, with victories against UMass Boston, Marist, Cornell, LIU Brooklyn, Loyola (Md.) and Boston University. Four different players average double figures in scoring: Thomas (19.2 points), Matt Harris (14.0), Ryan Jones (11.3) and Perry (10.7).
