Wisconsin senior linebacker Vince Biegel will miss several weeks after having surgery on his right foot Thursday evening, Wisconsin coach Paul Chryst announced Friday.
“I really hate any time a player has to miss time due to an injury, especially a senior like Vince,” Chryst said in a press release. “Vince has such a passion for football and loves playing the game. This team is very important to him and he is very important to our team. What you appreciate is that you know he will do everything in his power to get back on the field as soon as possible.”
Biegel, a team captain, met with team physicians this week to discuss the injury and surgery was determined to be the best option.
He has started 32 games for Wisconsin, including the last 29. Biegel was a third-team All-Big Ten selection last year and was named to preseason watch lists for the Bednarik Award, Butkus Award and Nagurski Trophy.
