Wisconsin’s big recruiting weekend

Following his official visit this weekend, 3-star defensive tackle Gio Paez announced he’d committed to the Badgers. His addition gives Wisconsin 11 commits in the Class of 2019.

Meanwhile, several more commits and targets had their official visits to Madison this weekend, as well. Among those included 3-star running back Julius Davis, 3-star cornerback Semar Melvin and 3-star defensive end Etinosa Reuben.

Wisconsin quarterback commit Graham Mertz shut down his recruitment last Thursday and joined 105.7 FM in Milwaukee on Friday to discuss it. You can hear the full interview here.

New offers in basketball

Wisconsin held its team basketball camp this weekend and handed a scholarship offer to power forward Ben Carlson. The 3-star recruit from Minnesota is the fourth known offer in the Class of 2020 for the Badgers.

Coach Greg Gard also offered his first scholarship in the 2021 class to Illinois shooting guard Max Christie.

Wisconsin game a tough one for Iowa

The Badgers have won five of the last six meetings with Iowa and the two rivals will meet again Sept. 22 in Iowa City. Though the Hawkeyes have a number of stiff tests this year, Land of 10’s Scott Dochterman has the Wisconsin game as the toughest.

Brooks Bollinger honored

Former Wisconsin quarterback Brooks Bollinger was inducted into the North Dakota Sports Hall of Fame this weekend.

Former Wisconsin recruit chooses new home

Nolan Groulx, who de-committed from the Badgers earlier this year, has decided where he’ll be going instead. The 3-star wide receiver announced Sunday he had committed to Wake Forest.

Happy Father’s Day

When you’ve lost 14 straight games to your rival and have generally been looking up at them in the standings for 25 years, it’s best not to suggest you’re their daddy. But that’s exactly what the Barstool Gophers account did on Sunday to Barstool’s Badgers account. It did not turn out well for Minnesota.
