The NCAA record holder for rushing yards by a freshman is officially back with Wisconsin.
During the Orange Bowl on Saturday night, Badgers running back Jonathan Taylor broke the record that was held by Oklahoma’s Adrian Peterson (1,925 in 2004). Ron Dayne is third with 1,863 yards in 1996. However, Dayne’s 246 yards in the 1996 Copper Bowl are not included.
Still, the NCAA now recognizes a Badger at No. 1 thanks to Taylor. And that makes Dayne happy.
“As the Don of Running Back U I would like to say I’m so proud of Jonathan Taylor for keeping it in the family,” Dayne wrote on Twitter.
