Wisconsin-Chicago State basketball preview
Wisconsin defeated Green Bay 81-60 on Saturday in one of its stronger offensive performances of the season. The Badgers made their first 11 field goal and never looked back.
Four different players scored in double figures for Wisconsin, led by Brad Davison’s 18 points. Although he only made 1 of 7 3-pointers, he was 6-for-7 from inside the arc and finished 7 of 14 from the field. Ethan Happ added 14 points with 8 rebounds, and Khalil Iverson made all 5 of his field goal attempts on his way to 12 points.
Wisconsin also received 9 points apiece from Aleem Ford and Nate Reuvers. Reuvers showcased his skills on both ends when he dunked over an opponent and blocked a shot on the other side of the court. Brevin Pritzl added 6 points with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and no turnovers.
Badgers freshman walk-on guard Walt McGrory played 21 minutes and tallied 4 points with 6 rebounds and 1 assist. McGrory burned his redshirt one game earlier against Western Kentucky, when he played 2 minutes.
Wisconsin is still adjusting without guards Kobe King and D’Mitrik Trice. King underwent left knee surgery and is out for the season. Trice had surgery on his right foot and has yet to begin rehab. The backcourt now consists of Davison and Pritzl as starters, with T.J. Schlundt and McGrory the top reserves.
Wisconsin has played arguably the most difficult schedule in the country. The Badgers have played eight games against teams ranked in the KenPom top-60, which is the most in the nation. Wisconsin also is one of four teams to have played four ranked opponents this season.
The Badgers have lost seven games this season but has been within minutes of winning four of them. In those four games, Wisconsin was tied or within 2 points with 2 minutes remaining.
Chicago State is 2-13 this season, which includes two lopsided losses to Big Ten teams. Iowa defeated Chicago State 95-62, while Northwestern dominated Chicago State 96-31. In that game, Chicago State trailed Northwestern 55-8 at halftime.
Fred Sims Jr. leads Chicago State in scoring at 14.1 points per game, followed by Delonte Simmons (9.8), Glen Burns (8.3) and Jelani Pruitt (7.5).
