“I would love if they could come back and do this again.”
The city of Provo, Utah, was in for an unusual weekend with Wisconsin coming to town to play BYU, a game that ended in a 40-6 Badgers win.
Provo, home to an overwhelmingly Mormon population (Mormons don’t drink alcohol), has only two bars. SB Nation’s Matt Brown wondered last Friday whether the hordes of Wisconsin fans in town for the game would polish off the entire supply of alcohol at City Limits and ABG’s Libation Emporium. That didn’t happen, but Provo’s two bars had their most lucrative weekend ever, according to the Salt Lake Tribune.
ABG owner Gary Whiting told the newspaper that Saturday was the most profitable day in his bar’s history, and was “triple” what he makes most days.
“The people from Wisconsin are fabulous,” he said. “They’re the nicest, funnest people we’ve ever had here.”
“They were all just happy to have a good time,” City Limits bartender Liz Burley told the Tribune. “They were joking about trying to drink Provo dry.”
“They’re really, really good tippers, better than the Utah tippers,” City Limits bartender Tucker Foit told Outsports. “Wisconsin fans are better tippers than the Utah fans, and you can put that in your story.
