Wisconsin basketball star Nigel Hayes has never been afraid to speak his mind.
From professing his love for a stenographer to speaking out in the interest of civil rights, Hayes is one of the most outspoken current college athletes. On Saturday, he took advantage of ESPN’s College GameDay being on campus.
Hayes was spotted holding a sign that read, “Broke college athlete: anything helps” with a Venmo logo and handle underneath. Venmo is an online service that allows users to “make and share payments with friends.”

It’s doubtful the Venmo account is real, but that didn’t stop fans from searching it out. A Venmo account with the handle “@brokebadger” and Hayes’ name attached received several supportive messages Saturday morning.
“Respect from a UK fan. Go Cats!” posted Venmo user Evan Woolums.
Hayes has spoken out on this issue before, and is a plaintiff in the Martin Jenkins lawsuit against the NCAA.
Wisconsin hosts Ohio State at 8 p.m. ET Saturday night at Camp Randall Stadium.
