Wisconsin athletic director Barry Alvarez has signed a contract extension through Jan. 31, 2021, the school announced Wednesday.
Alvarez, who is 69 years old, has been Wisconsin’s athletic director since 2004. He is mostly known for leading the Badgers football team, winning a program-record 119 games and three Rose Bowl games. He coached the Badgers for 16 seasons and is a member of the College Football Hall of Fame.

The announcement arrives days after the football team, led by coach Paul Chryst, upset then-No. 5 LSU, 16-14, at Lambeau Field. The football team went from unranked to No. 10 in the AP Poll, joining the school’s volleyball and men’s cross country teams in the top 10. The women’s volleyball team is ranked No. 2 in the country.
