Last week, Wisconsin won and dropped in the AP and Coaches Poll.
The Badgers knew if they won again, this time against Nebraska, they wouldn’t suffer the same fate.
So it’s good Wisconsin won an overtime thriller.
Previous rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 11/No. 11
New rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 8/No. 8
Last result: Beat Nebraska 23-17 (OT)
What it means: Wisconsin now needs Nebraska to lose once more (Saturday at Ohio State is a possibility) in order to become the clear leader in the division race. As long as the Badgers keep winning, they remain a possibility in the College Football Playoff chase.
We’ll know more on Tuesday with the first CFP rankings of the season, but with Wisconsin in the Top 10 of the two major polls, there’s still plenty to play for as the Badgers head into November and a road game vs. Northwestern.
Wisconsin will likely be favored the rest of the way (or at least until the Big Ten title game, should the Badgers get there).
