When it comes to 2-loss teams, no one is better than Wisconsin.
That’s what the major polls continue to say with Sunday’s newest rankings, as the Badgers are the highest-ranked 2-loss team in the country. Wisconsin improved to 7-2 with Saturday’s 21-7 win over Northwestern.
Here’s the latest with Wisconsin’s national rankings:
Previous rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 8/No. 8
New rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 7/No. 7
Last result: Beat Northwestern 21-7 on Saturday.
What it means: Wisconsin (7-2, 4-2 Big Ten) did what it had to do against Northwestern, winning on the road and taking advantage of the teams ahead of, or tied with, the Badgers in the Big Ten West standings losing.
Plus, with Nebraska’s loss at Ohio State on Saturday night, Wisconsin now controls its own destiny in the division race. If Wisconsin wins out, the Badgers will play in the conference title game. With games against Illinois, Purdue and Minnesota remaining, Wisconsin will be a very strong favorite the rest of the way.
Right now, if the Badgers win out — including the Big Ten title game — it would be very difficult for them to be left out of the College Football Playoff.
Up next: Wisconsin hosts Illinois at 3:30 p.m. ET on Saturday.
