Joe Thomas will go be remembered as one of the best players to ever wear a Cleveland Browns uniform.
His stellar play on the field, his work charitable work away from the field and his loyalty to the city of Cleveland and the Browns organization made the Wisconsin alum a fan favorite. Although Thomas retired having only played on one winning team in his 11-year career — the Browns went 10-6 in 2007 — the veteran left tackle gave his all to Cleveland.
The city will return the favor to the six-time first-team All-Pro. July 3 now will be known as Joe Thomas Day in Cleveland to reflect his uniform number, 73.
The city made the announcement on Twitter (below).
Thomas wore No. 73 for the Browns for his entire career, a number the team likely will retire one day.
Thomas ends his professional career with an NFL record 10,363 consecutive snaps played and is a shoo-in for the Pro Football Hall of Fame.
We wish you well on your retirement, sir!
