Wisconsinites were delighted at the start of Day 3 of the 2017 NFL Draft when the Green Bay Packers selected homegrown Vince Biegel of the Wisconsin Badgers. There’s a good chance they’ll be doing a lot of cheering for Biegel on the field during his rookie season, too.
Biegel is expected to be an “impact rookie,” according to ESPN draft guru Mel Kiper Jr. Kiper listed all the players taken in rounds 4-7 who he expects to make an immediate impact on their new teams, and Biegel was on the list. (ESPN Insider access is needed to see the full list.)
Kiper said he expects Biegel to step in right away at linebacker in Green Bay and give the Packers a needed pass rusher off the edge. Biegel had 15 sacks during his time at Wisconsin, and he took down the quarterback at least four times in each of his final three years in Madison.
If that translates over to the pro level, he’ll be on the frozen tundra often in Green Bay.
