MADISON, Wis. — Wisconsin remained firmly in the top 10 of the latest Associated Press Top 25 poll, which was released Sunday, coming in at No. 9. The Badgers were No. 10 in the latest Amway Coaches Poll.
Wisconsin crushed BYU 40-6 on Saturday in the Badgers’ first road test of the season. One week after dropping a spot in the poll following a closer-than-expected 31-14 victory against Florida Atlantic, Wisconsin demonstrated why it has the potential to be a College Football Playoff team.
Quarterback Alex Hornibrook set the single-game school record for completion percentage, connecting on 18 of 19 passes for 256 yards and 4 touchdowns. Meanwhile, the defense hasn’t surrendered a touchdown in the last six quarters.
Wisconsin enters its bye week before beginning Big Ten play against Northwestern on Sept. 30.
Previous rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): 10/12
New rankings (AP/Amway Coaches Poll): 9/10
What it means: Wisconsin put together its most complete effort of the season in a convincing victory against BYU. When the Badgers play with such offensive consistency and defensive dominance, few teams in the country will be able to compete with them. And that spells trouble for the rest of the Big Ten West.
What’s next: Wisconsin (3-0) has a bye on Saturday before opening Big Ten play against Northwestern (2-1) on Sept. 30 at Camp Randall Stadium.
