Paul Chryst has added Bobby April III to his staff at Wisconsin as the program’s outside linebackers coach.
April, who spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons with the Buffalo Bills, is taking over for Tim Tibesar. Tibesar left his post with the Badgers to become the defensive coordinator at Oregon State this offseason.

“I know the tradition, the toughness and the chip-on-the-shoulder mentality,” April said of Wisconsin in a story posted to the Badgers’ official website. “And the growth from within in a program that was everything I was looking for in developing my coaching style.
April has also previously worked with the New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles. His last college job was at Nicholls State in 2010.
April and Wisconsin defensive coordinator Jim Leonhard have a connection due to April’s father, Bobby April Jr. Leonhard played under April Jr. during his NFL career.
“I was very impressed throughout the interviewing process with just how he thought about the game and what was important and what is going to make his players and our defense successful,” Leonhard said of April III.
With the addition of April, Chryst’s staff is now full with 10 assistants.
