“Thank you God for all the blessings and opportunities,” Igwenagu wrote on Twitter. “Thank you to everybody that supported and helped me throughout my high school journey. With that being said I will continue my football career at Rutgers University.”
In an article by 247Sports, Igwenagu said that he will fill the role of the Sam linebacker at Rutgers, meaning that he will play a position that combines linebacker and safety responsibilities.
“I am going to play nickel/rover,” Igwenagu said in the article. “It’s like a hybrid, I can rush off the edge, play the nickel back in coverage and cover the slot.”
Igwenagu visited Rutgers on March 22. Although he ultimately picked the Scarlet Knights, he also received offers from UMass, Kent State, Buffalo and Army, among others.
In addition to being the top prospect from Massachusetts from the Class of 2019, he is the No. 43-ranked outside linebacker in the class and the No. 628 overall prospect, according to 247Sports 2019 composite rankings.
Rutgers’ Class of 2019 ranks No. 48 in the country and No. 12 in the Big Ten.
