The groomsman wore a dog collar. As the music played, the big lug was led down the aisle.
On a leash.
So no, it wasn’t your typical summer wedding.
But then again, former Rutgers offensive lineman Jeremy Zuttah and new bride Heran Haile aren’t your typical couple.
In a story posted this week on BarkPost.com (with a hat-tip to Show Your Soft Side), Haile and Zuttah, now of the Baltimore Ravens, discussed how they rearranged their wedding ceremony in order to accommodate the mutual love of their lives: their 8-year-old pit bull terrier, Ace. From BarkPost:
“So that didn’t work,” says Heran.
And the party got moved to a converted — and dog-friendly — gymnasium. Ace was fitted with a custom tuxedo and collar and even had a few training sessions to make sure he’d keep his cool during the ceremony. Mission accomplished:
The couple adopted Ace while they were students at Rutgers, and the pit bull has been joined to their collective hips ever since. Zuttah is a proud and public advocate against animal cruelty, and has even swayed teammates to adopt rather than shop.
Their atypical typical summer wedding went off without a hitch. Plus, when it came time to kiss the bride, the day’s big winner walked on four legs:
“We’re crazy dog people,” Haile told BarkPost.
Crazy in love, too. And for their favorite pooch, the feeling is totally mutual.
