Rutgers became a finalist for a three-star player Thursday, however they’ll have some stiff competition for the defensive lineman.
Ryan Thaxton, a class of 2017 three-star defensive line prospect and a Alexandria, Va., native, Tweeted out his list of finalists Thursday. In his list of four schools, Thaxton listed Rutgers, along with three SEC schools in Ole Miss, Tennessee and Vanderbilt.

Thaxton is the 23rd-best player in the state of Virginia, as well as the 39th-best defensive end prospect in the nation according to 247Sports. He also fielded offers from Virginia, Cincinnati and Army.
A commitment from Thaxton would give the Rutgers loads of depth in the class of 2017, as they currently have two three-star defensive end commits as well as a three-star defensive tackle commit. Thaxton’s commitment would add another three-star defensive end prospect to that list.
However, Rutgers has its work cut out for them according to 247Sports, as they project Vanderbilt is a heavy favorite to land a commitment from Thaxton.
