Rutgers football will have a new Power 5 opponent in its nonconference schedule come 2020 and 2021 as the Scarlet Knights announced they are added a home-and-home with former Big East foe Syracuse on Thursday.
The two games replace a previously scheduled home-and-home with UCLA.
The first game in 2020 will be played at High Point Solutions Stadium in Piscataway before Rutgers travels to the Carrier Dome at Syracuse in 2021.
“Returning the Rutgers-Syracuse series, which has a long history will be exciting for both fan bases,” Scarlet Knights coach Chris Ash said via press release. “With our nonconference schedule, we have focused on adding games that showcase great football in this region.”
The two schools are just under four hours away from each other and have battled over recruits before.
Rutgers and Syracuse played for 33 years straight from 1980-2012 as they squared off in the Big East starting in 1991 then joined different conferences down the road.
The Orange lead the all-time series 30-12-1, but the Scarlet Knights have won six of the last eight meetings.
The last time they played, the Scarlet Knights won 23-15 at home in 2012 after a 19-16 double-overtime victory in Syracuse in 2011.
