Not even a day into training camp, Rutgers’ quarterback competition appears to be a little smaller.
Returning starter Chris Laviano and TCU graduate transfer Zach Allen are listed as co-starters on the team’s depth chart, via NJ.com, with Giovanni Rescigno and Hayden Rettig behind them as backups.
Coach Chris Ash said last month that all four quarterbacks would have an opportunity to win the starting job.
Laviano led a solid Rutgers offense a season ago, averaging 7.3 yards per attempt while completing 60.9 percent of his passes. He threw 16 TDs and 12 INTs.
Allen attempted just two passes in his career at TCU while backing up Trevone Boykin. Rettig was Laviano’s backup last year, and Rescigno was behind them.
