Rutgers University appears to have secured a name for its new multisport training complex, and with it, a big check.
RWJBarnabas Health, New Jersey’s largest hospital and medical network, is expected to acquire the naming-rights, according to sources close to NJ New Media’s Keith Sargeant.
While the deal has yet to be finalized, Sargeant reported that RWJBarnabas Health will be the “key naming-rights partner at a $10 million-plus price tag.”
Sargeant reported that an announcement about the naming-rights deal will likely occur when the university begins breaking ground on the facility on Nov. 1.
RWJBarnabas Health will take up residence at the new multisport facility, as well as the Hale Center, as part of the deal, according to the report. That means that Rutgers athletes will receive access to the medical network’s team of physicians and nutrition experts throughout the school year.
“Industry insiders say that would put Rutgers Athletics as a leader among college athletics programs nationally in providing healthcare service to its student-athletes,” Sargeant writes.
Up until this most recent report, the new facility for Scarlet Knights women’s basketball, men’s basketball, volleyball, wrestling and gymnastics was expected to be called the Multisport Training Complex and Integrated Parking Facility.
