For second straight season, there’s $100K riding on Rutgers’ first home kick return
There’s a lot riding on Rutgers’ first play at home this season — $100,000 to be exact.
For the second season in a row, the Scarlet Knights are doing a promotion that could make 100 students $1,000 richer in the matter of seconds. One hundred different students could win $1,000 if a Rutgers player returns the first kick off the home team receives for a touchdown in a promotion. It was sponsored by a car dealership last year.
The promotion will take place during Rutgers’ home-opener against Howard, an FCS opponent, on Sept. 10.
For 2nd consecutive year, Rutgers promotion will give 100 students $1,000 each if RU returns opening kickoff for a TD vs. Howard

The same promotion was in place last season, but Rutgers’ Janarion Grant only returned the first kick off Rutgers received 22 yards in a game against Norfolk State.
Grant, now a senior, turned out to be one of the best kick returners in the country last season and took a trio of kick offs to the house for touchdowns – one of which came later in the game against Norfolk State.
He’ll have his shot at redemption, and to be one of the most popular people on campus, in a few weeks.
