Former Rutgers and Michigan wide receiver Ahmir Mitchell has transferred to Arizona Western College, according to a report by The Press of Atlantic City’s Nicholas Huba.
Mitchell’s transfer to Arizona Western College — a junior college located in Yuma, Ariz. — comes weeks after he was released from his scholarship at Rutgers. Previously, Rutgers football kicked Mitchell off the team in October 2017 for an unspecified violation of team rules, according to the report.

Mitchell has not yet played in a college football game. After graduating from Cedar Creek High School in Egg Harbor City, N.J., in 2016, he committed to Michigan. In the summer of 2016 with the Wolverines, he was suspended for an undisclosed reason and was forced to sit out the 2016 season, according to NCAA rules.
After Mitchell transferred to Rutgers for the 2017 season, the NCAA retained that Mitchell had four years of eligibility remaining. During spring practice with the Scarlet Knights in 2017, he sustained a torn anterior crucial ligament. While the Rutgers coaching staff was hopeful that Mitchell would play in 2017, his dismissal from the team never allowed him that opportunity.
Mitchell was a former 4-star prospect, according to 247Sports. He was the No. 5-ranked prospect in New Jersey in his recruiting class.
