Purdue entered halftime tied 39-39 with defending national champion Villanova, but only because of a banked-in three-point heave from halfcourt from Purdue point guard P.J. Thompson. The 15th-ranked Boilermakers are hosting the third-ranked Wildcats in the opening night of the Gavitt Tipoff Games.

Thompson had six points in the first half. Purdue’s Mackey Arena reportedly hit 117 on the decibel meter when the shot went in.
Was just told on P.J.'s 3-pointer, that we hit 117 on the dB meter.#Purdue Mackey Arena
