Michigan State-Purdue should be awesome
Purdue and Michigan State have been in the Big Ten’s group of teams that are actually good all season. Michigan State, No. 2 in the AP preseason poll, was expected to be there. Purdue, the preseason No. 20, was not.
The Boilermakers have run through most of their schedule with ease. Before losing to Ohio State on Wednesday night, they hadn’t lost since Thanksgiving. Michigan State has not been quite as consistent as Purdue, and has a loss to the Buckeyes as well.
Michigan State can likely claim the conference’s best collection of talent. Purdue is the most experienced squad in the Big Ten. Led by seniors Vince Edwards, Isaac Haas, Dakota Mathias and P.J. Thompson and dynamite sophomore Carsen Edwards, the Boilermakers have an offense that is built with obvious strengths. Michigan State dominates with its athleticism and strength. Miles Bridges, Jaren Jackson Jr., Nick Ward and Cassius Winston were some of the highest-rated recruits to come through the Big Ten in the past few years, and it shows.
Big Ten basketball hasn’t been a pretty product this season. Usual contenders Indiana and Maryland are down. Northwestern is underwhelming after last year’s NCAA Tournament run. Minnesota was supposed to be good but is not. Iowa is just real bad. You don’t get many chances to see marquee games in the Big Ten, so a matchup of two top-5 teams is one you won’t want to miss.
