Austin Appleby, the former Purdue quarterback who will start for Florida this Saturday, seemingly took a shot at the Purdue coaches when he said on Monday that he said he’s never had coaches who cared like the ones at Florida.
That comment was seen as a shot at Purdue coach Darrell Hazell and his staff.
When asked about Appleby’s comment, Hazell avoided the issue.
“I’m not going to respond to that comment,” he said Tuesday.
Hazell was later asked about two former Boilermakers quarterbacks starting this Saturday: Appleby at Florida and Danny Etling for LSU.
“Well, I wish them the best and I hope they both have success down there.”
Appleby and Etling were fighting for Purdue’s starting job while with the Boilermakers. In his three seasons with Purdue, Appleby passed for a total of 2,777 yards, 19 TDs and 19 interceptions. Etling passed for 2,490 yards, 16 TDs and 12 interceptions. Etling transferred after the 2014 season. Appleby is a graduate transfer.
It seems Hazell is focused only on his team, as Purdue tries to improve to 2-1 when it faces Nevada at noon on Saturday.
