Purdue is coming off a dominant win over SIU Edwardsville in which it dropped 105 points. Four Boilermakers scored at least 14 points and seven had at least 8 points.
Isaac Haas (16 points, 7 rebounds) and Vince Edwards (14 points, 5 rebounds, 3 blocks) were among the guys who led the way for Purdue. Freshman Nojel Eastern looked good off the bench with 8 points, 8 assists, 5 rebounds and just 2 turnovers.
But the Boilermakers did give up 24 offensive rebounds and really felt the loss off Caleb Swanigan. They did have eight blocks.
“Just play hard,” Edwards told the Lafayette Courier-Journal. “It’s a solitary thing. They hit first and it showed. They were after the balls. They just wanted it more at one point in time. We’ve got to be better as a team.”
Chicago State is coming off a loss to Iowa in its season opener, 95-62.
KenPom.com, a college basketball analytics site, projects a 90-59 win for Purdue on Sunday and gives it a 99.7 percent chance to win.
The Boilermakers face their first real test of the season against Marquette on Tuesday, then the following week, play four consecutive top 50 teams — Tennessee, Louisville, Maryland and Northwestern.
