Purdue forward Jacquil Taylor will be out until at least February, Boilermakers head coach Matt Painter told the Journal and Courier.
The school announced on Wednesday that the sophomore would need surgery to heal a stress fracture in his left ankle. He suffered the injury two weeks ago, but only recently learned of the severity. Now he is at risk of missing nearly the entire 2016-2017 season.
Taylor played in 13 games a season ago, averaging 1.9 points and 1.5 rebounds per game. Purdue enters the season ranked as the No. 15 team in the nation.
