Purdue’s Vincent Edwards tweets at NCAA after winning $50K at 3X3U tournament
It may not all be about the money, but boy does money help.
On Sunday — the day before the NCAA Tournament championship game takes place — the 3X3U college basketball 3-on-3 tournament ended and the Big Ten team defeated the Big West team.
So, what did the Big Ten players get for their victory?
$50,000. And, that was just the grand prize. Each win to get to the championship game netted the team $1,000. In total, the Big Ten team made $55,000 over the weekend.
Purdue’s Vincent Edwards, Ohio State’s Jae’Sean Tate, Minnesota’s Nate Mason and Indiana’s Robert Johnson made up the Big Ten team.
After winning the tournament — and the money — Edwards sent a message to the NCAA on social media about his earnings.
@NCAA this only like a third of what y’all make off of us if that! I’m just saying. 🤷🏽♂️ Maybe one day! #PayThemBoys🤑 pic.twitter.com/JGftCydjSg

Well, let it be known that Edwards believes collegiate basketball players should be paid. As do many people.
The ongoing discussion is always a topic in the sports world, and especially when a tournament like this pays out $100,000 in total over the course of one weekend, you have to at least think about the topic when March Madness is about to come to a close and players receive nothing for it financially.
The 3x3U tournament was not put on by the NCAA and was paid for by different sponsors.
