In the wake of Saturday’s 38-35 loss to Duke and last week’s 36-28 loss to Michigan State, Notre Dame announced it has fired its defensive coordinator Brian VanGorder.
To replace him, the Fighting Irish have promoted defensive analyst and former Purdue defensive coordinator Greg Hudson to the same position for the time being.
Hudson was the defensive coordinator with the Boilermakers from 2013-2015. He was also the linebackers coach and a recruiting coordinator at Minnesota in 2001 and served as defensive coordinator as well from 2002-2004.
The move comes just over a week after Irish head coach Brian Kelly was seen cursing out VanGorder on the sideline in the team’s loss against the Spartans.
Hudson played linebacker and was a catcher on the baseball team for the Irish in the late 1980s and also served as a graduate assistant in 1993.
