The skinny: The Boilermakers Express isn’t just rolling right now — it’s taking names. Purdue’s 15-game winning streak is just one shy of tying the school record for consecutive victories (16). The Boilermakers drained 20 3-pointers in a romp at Iowa over the weekend to help coach Matt Painter’s squad tie the program mark for best start in league games (8-0, tying the 1989-90 crew) and best start after 21 games in school history (tying the 1987-88 team that opened at 24-2). The Wolverines can’t be overlooked, but setting a new consecutive win mark with a victory in Bloomington, Ind., over the Hoosiers would be the icing on a January that’s proven to be a pretty damn tasty cake already.
Jerry Palm’s prognosis: 1 seed. “Nobody’s playing better than Purdue right now,” the CBS Sports bracketologist tells Land of 10. “Nobody’s got more of the higher-quality wins than Purdue. They are not just winning, they are laying waste to people. It’s a 15-game streak now, and only of those wins haven’t been double-digit wins. They’re just eviscerating people. It’s hard to find a team playing better than Purdue right now.”
