Penn State coach James Franklin has done wonders setting up his program for future success with his recruiting efforts. Now, with spring football fast approaching, Franklin and his staff need to see the hard work pay off.

The York Daily Record’s Frank Bodani wrote that if Penn State is to replicate past success under Franklin, its future stars need to make themselves known now.

Another target

Speaking of the work that Franklin and his staff have done, another target has put Penn State on his list as a potential landing spot.

Land Of 10’s Tyler Donohue wrote that 4-star offensive lineman John Olmstead has put the Nittany Lions among his top 10 schools.

Daddy dearest

Saquon Barkley’s life is about to get that much busier. The former Penn State running back will be front and center at the NFL draft in April, expected to be one of the top 5 picks.

But Barkley’s significant other announced over the weekend the two are expecting their first child as well, wrote the Centre Daily Times’ Shawn Annarelli.

Home cooking

Penn State’s men’s ice hockey team learned it wouldn’t have to go all that far for it’s first-round matchup in the NCAA Tournament. The Nittany Lions will host the opening matchup against Denver at the PPL Center in Allentown, where they have a connection.

The Daily Collegian’s Patrick Burns wrote that Bill Downey’s link to the Penn State program has never been more important than it is right now.

Getting defensive

Penn State’s men’s basketball team stayed alive in the NIT with a huge road win against Notre Dame on Saturday. The same Notre Dame team that many felt was snubbed for an NCAA Tournament bid a little more than a week ago.

So, how exactly have the Nittany Lions been on this run? The Daily Collegian’s Vincent Lungaro wrote that the defense is carrying the load as Penn State tries to win another NIT crown.
