Saquon Barkley is one of college football’s brightest stars at running back. His name is well-known, perhaps now more than after after the first 200-yard rushing game of his career.
But Barkley almost went by another name — or at least would have if his father got his wish. In an interview with the Big Ten Network’s Mike Hall, Barkley said his father wanted to name him after the famous rapper Tupac Shakur.
“To be completely honest, my father wanted to name me Tupac Shakur because he was in love with Tupac Shakur at that time. My mom was not having that at all.”

That's what @saquonb21's dad wanted to name him.

Barkley, the Big Ten’s Offensive Player of the Week, is a star no matter the name. He rushed for 1,000 yards as a freshman in 2015 and seems to be finding his rhythm this year. Through six games, Barkley has 582 rushing yards on 117 carries (5.0 per rush) with 8 touchdowns.
Penn State has a bye this week before getting a visit from Ohio State for an 8 p.m. game on Oct. 22 on ABC.
