Penn State has the two best players in the Big Ten and two of the 10 best players in college football, says ESPN.
ESPN released its list of top 50 college football players ahead of the 2017 season on Tuesday, and both Nittany Lions’ running back Saquon Barkley (No. 4) and quarterback Trace McSorley (No. 10) were in the top 10. The potent Penn State backfield package has big expectations entering the 2017 season after a captivating 2016 campaign that led to a surprising Big Ten title.
Barkley, considered by many to be the nation’s top running back, came fourth on the list behind only Florida State DB Derwin James, USC QB Sam Darnold and Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield. McSorley, meanwhile, was the fourth-best quarterback on the list. Penn State is the only team in the country to have two players make the top 10.
The two players were the highest in the Big Ten on the list. Ohio State QB J.T. Barrett came in at No. 13 and was the only other Big Ten player ranked in the top 25, which can be found here. The rest of the list, which features seven Big Ten players, can be found here.
