Saquon Barkley going second overall to the New York Giants in the 2018 NFL Draft is looking like a decent possibility with the first round just three days away. But not everyone is on board with the Giants drafting the Penn State running back that high in the draft.
ESPN’s Mike Greenberg said the franchise would be “crazy” to select Barkley with the No. 2 pick. Greenberg argued that, while he is a big fan of Barkley, the Giants would be much better off selecting one of the four quarterbacks who will likely fall in the top 10: Sam Darnold, Josh Allen, Josh Rosen or Baker Mayfield.
“I want to make one thing perfectly clear, and that is I love Saquon Barkley. I watched that kid beat Iowa one Saturday night all by himself, and I instantly realized he is as good as any college running back I’ve ever seen,” Greenberg said. “The combination of power and speed, plus all the intangibles everyone said he has in abundance. The kid is going to be great. But if the Giants take him at No. 2, in my opinion, they are crazy. …Any one of [the quarterbacks] would be a better choice, whether the Giants use the pick or trade it to someone who will.”
Greenberg went on to argue that the 13 of the last 15 Super Bowls were won by “elite” quarterbacks. Here’s the full clip:
