Downtown State College was again a scene of chaos Saturday night following Penn State’s victory over Wisconsin in the Big Ten title game.
Police had to use riot gear after students and others climbed signs and broke a street light. On Tuesday morning, police told the Associated Press they had, so far, identified four people — three students and a 39-year-old man — who will eventually face charges stemming from the fracas.
From the report:
Police say some fans climbed on street signs, others removing a street light and even one report that a fan sprayed a police horse with a beer.
Multiple videos have surfaced from Saturday night, including this one of a college-aged man smashing a downed street light.
After Penn State’s win over Ohio State in October, an estimated $30,000 in damage was done to the town, and 13 people were charged in a similar out-of-control celebration.
Penn State urged students not to act similarly in the event of a conference title, but the plea apparently fell on deaf ears. Police have not yet estimated the amount of damage caused Saturday night, but said the unruly crowd was larger than the one earlier in the season.
