Not that it was really in question, but former Penn State standout running back Saquon Barkley does not need any more evaluation. He’s draft ready and so are the teams that want to take him.
That was evidenced by the fact that while there were representatives for all 32 NFL teams at the Penn State Pro Day on Tuesday, not one was a running backs coach. They had seen all they needed to see, so Barkley chose not to workout.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini backed up that sentiment:
Reached out to some running backs coaches in the NFL to get their take on why no RB coaches showed up for Saquon Barkley’s Pro, one coach shared over text “We joked about how there has to be something wrong with him, but nobody can find it, he is the safest pick in a while.”

Here’s what one coach had to say:
“We joked about how there has to be something wrong with him, but nobody can find it, he is the safest pick in a while.”
Barkley could be the No. 1 overall pick in the 2018 overall draft by the Cleveland Browns, but should he fall, the New York Jets and New York Giants are in prime position to take him before the Browns pick again.
