So much for a letdown after upsetting Ohio State. It looks like Penn State may be here to stay in the national rankings.
Penn State didn’t look overconfident or cocky after the Ohio State win, easily beating Purdue 62-24 on Saturday. Thanks to the win and results around the Nittany Lions, Penn State moved up in the AP and into the Coaches Poll.
Previous rankings (Coaches/AP): NR/No. 24
New rankings (Coaches/AP): No. 23/No. 20
Last result: Beat Purdue, 62-24
What it means: Penn State took advantage of a wild Saturday to affirm its home in the polls. Not only did the Nittany Lions win impressively, but a few teams close to them in the rankings lost, meaning Penn State naturally moved up. But Penn State can’t get too ahead of itself, as Iowa visits for a night game. Win that and the Nittany Lions will not lose ground in the division race with Michigan and Ohio State. Penn State would also make a push toward the Top 15 if it beats Iowa.
