Penn State wrestling is back on top, both on the mat and in the recruiting rankings.
For the first time since 2014, the Nittany Lions have the nation’s top-ranked recruiting class, according to FloWrestling and InterMat.
Penn State is coming off its unheard-of seventh NCAA title in the last eight years. Behind four individual national champions, the Nittany Lions edged Big Ten and national rival Ohio State at the 2018 NCAA Wrestling Championships in March.
The Buckeyes again finished runner-up to Penn State in the latest recruiting duel, while Minnesota, Michigan and Nebraska all finished in the top 10 of both rankings.
Since becoming Penn State’s coach in 2009, Cael Sanderson has built and sustained a national powerhouse that shows no signs of letting go of its championship reign. Along with having the top freshman, the Nittany Lions return three of their four national champions next season.
