There’s another tournament taking place this weekend, and Penn State is off the a pretty solid start.
The Nittany Lions were dominant on the mat Thursday, winning 15 matches and losing just one on the opening day of the 2017 NCAA Wrestling Championships.
No. 3 seed Nick Suriano technically lost his match, as well, though he was ruled out earlier with an injury.
Jimmy Gulibon won his first match in the 141-pound division before losing in the second round. The other seven wrestlers—Zain Retherford, Mark Hall, Jason Nolf, Vincenzo Joseph, Bo Nickal, Matt McCutcheon, and Nick Nevills—won their respective first- and second-round matches.
The action starts back up again Friday from the Scottrade Center in St. Louis.
The Nittany Lions are in search of their sixth title in seven years.
