Penn State volleyball coach Russ Rose is used to getting questions in interviews.
But on Wednesday night during his No. 9 team’s matchup against No. 19 Ohio State, in a live television interview with the Big Ten Network, Rose posed a question of his own.
Rose, born in Chicago and a Cubs fan, stopped mid answer and asked the score of the Cubs-Los Angeles Dodgers NLCS game that was taking place at the same time.

“I think we’re serving really well,” Rose said. “It’s like the… how are the Dodgers and the Cubs doing right now before we go any further?”
Rose was then told it was 0-0 in the bottom of the second with two on and two out for the Dodgers, then he answered the question.
The coach was then asked who was the Javier Baez — who’s been playing really well for the Cubs — on his team that night.
“At this point in time, I’ll go with the setter,” Rose said. “But that’s just because my libero hasn’t dug any balls yet.”
The Nittany Lions won in three sets (25-21, 25-20, 25-17) and the Cubs then won 10-2 to tie their series with the Dodgers at 2-2.
Rose may have to ask the announces for an update again in his team’s next match, as the Lions play Michigan on Saturday at 7 p.m., while the Dodgers and the Cubs square off in game six of the series at 8 p.m.
