The 2018 spring game for Penn State took place on Saturday and the Blue team defeated the White team, 21-10.
An estimated 71,000 fans showed up to get a peek on what’s to come this fall from the Nittany Lions.
After the Blue-White game — which featured no major injuries according to coach James Franklin — Franklin and Keegan-Michael Key addressed the media. Key is a comedian who went to school at Penn State and is a fan of the football program.
He also looks like Franklin, which led to the coach’s comment about this year’s Christmas card. The entire post-spring game interview is below, but from 11:30 in the video to about 12:10, Franklin talks about his family Christmas photo this year, featuring Key:
“Keegan, before the game, took a family picture … it’s going to be our Christmas card this year,” Franklin said. “So, it was Keegan in with my family. And I have not seen my wife that happy in a long time. I mean, her face just lit up and I wasn’t completely comfortable with that. So, it is what it is. Obviously I need to get on the treadmill.”
Franklin’s joke got the room laughing, which will hopefully set the mood for Penn State football going into the fall. There were no major injuries and Franklin was able to laugh with a comedian afterward in front of the media.
Penn State’s 2018 spring game has to be seen as a success.
