A day to showcase

Penn State held it’s annual pro day on Tuesday and the contingent of NFL bound Nittany Lions once against put on a show for scouts.

Even scout team running back Josh McPhearson was showcasing his talents in the hopes to land a spot as an NFL free agent, writes the Centre Daily Times’ John McGonigal.

The right time

Tight end Mike Gesicki’s stock has gone up since his NFL combine performance. WalterFootball.com listed him as the third best tight end available, and a “dangerous red zone weapon” after the NFL combine.

Land of 10’s Tyler Donohue writes that Gesicki knows he is peaking at the right time headed into the NFL draft.

A lot to learn

Every NFL team was represented at Penn State’s pro day, something that has not been the case in past years.

According to Lions 247’s Andrew Callahan, Oakland Raiders general manager Reggie McKenzie was in attendance for the second straight year. Callahan also writes that safety Marcus Allen told reporters he’s heard from all 32 teams in the league.

Pops Saquon Barkley

Over the weekend, Saquon Barkley’s girlfriend announced the couple was expecting their first child. The couple’s baby is due April 14th, with the NFL draft coming two weeks later.

On Tuesday, Barkley talked to reporters at Penn State’s pro day. The Allentown Morning Call’s Mark Wogenrich writes that Barkley has thought about a lot of things over the last few months, including how he will react to getting drafted, and how he will handle becoming a dad.

Rapid improvement

DaeSean Hamilton figures to go in the middle rounds of the draft. WalterFootball.com has Hamilton as anywhere from a third- to a fifth-round pick. He may have done himself some big favors at pro day.

Hamilton wowed the crowd in attendance with his 40-yard dash time, writes the Centre Daily Times’ Josh Moyer. Most scouts thought Hamilton would run a 4.6, he was clocked by one scout at 4.47, per Moyer.

The Waterbury, Conn., defensive back will visit Happy Valley the April 21 weekend of the annual Blue-White spring game, writes Land of 10’s Tyler Donohue. Rudolph was on campus when Penn State defeated Nebraska last November, and received an official offer then.

Like family

Allen and Saquon Barkley were close during their time at Penn State, so close, that they are practically family. Barkley’s soon-to-be-born baby will think of Allen as family too.

Land Of 10’s Connor Whooley says that Allen will be the godfather to Barkley’s baby. Most certainly an offer Allen can’t refuse.

Still playing
