Penn State benefitted greatly from its bye week, rising to No. 2 after a slew of upsets. How is coach James Franklin dealing with Penn State being ranked higher than it has since 1999? He explained on BTN:
Michigan. Michigan. Michigan.

“For me, it hasn’t really felt any different,” Franklin said. “This is my first time, as a head coach, as a player, as an assistant, that I’ve been ranked this high. I wake up in the morning still feeling like there’s still a lot of areas we have improve, a lot of different things we can work on. I’ve got tremendous respect for our opponent, Michigan, so we spending all week kinda focused on that.”
With Michigan coming to town, Franklin’s not letting his team focus on the ranking.
“At our team meeting on Sunday I addressed this with the players,” he said. “Guys, you’ve earned this, but the reality is none of that matters. GameDay’s coming, that doesn’t matter. We need to prepare this week. We’re ranked No. 2 in the country, it doesn’t matter. We need to prepare this week. All these things, if not handled correctly, can become distractions.”
BTN’s Rick Pizzo started the interview by assuring Franklin they would only be talking about “Michigan. Michigan. Michigan.”
“Yeah, let’s not waste anyone’s time.”
