With the 2017-18 college football campaign just a few months away, many watch lists are being released.
The 2017 Lott IMPACT Trophy is no exception, and a pair of Penn State players made the preseason watch list released Friday: Senior S Marcus Allen and senior LB Jason Cabinda. The trophy is “recognizes college football’s Defensive Player of the Year who best exemplifies the IMPACT acronym: Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.” Former Nittany Lions DE Carl Nassib won the award in 2015.
The trophy is named after Hall of Fame DB Ronnie Lott who played on four Super Bowl winners in his 14-year NFL career. In 1986, he nabbed a career-high 10 interceptions with the San Francisco 49ers, the team with which he played 10 of those seasons and won all four championships.
Last season, Allen collected a team-high 110 tackles, adding 6 tackles for loss, 3 pass breakups, a forced fumble, two fumble recoveries, and one very big blocked field goal. Cabinda amassed 81 total tackles with 4 TFL and a sack in his junior campaign.
