Penn State-Indiana series history
Penn State has dominated the all-time series at 19-1. But the Hoosiers have won recently, winning 44-24 in Bloomington, Ind., in 2013. Besides that, however, it’s been all Nittany Lions.
Penn State has won the past three meetings: 13-7 in 2014, 29-7 in 2015 and 45-31 in 2016. In last year’s game, the Hoosiers outgained the Lions 454 to 409 but Penn State was plus-3 in turnovers.
The Penn State-Indiana series history is relatively new. The two programs didn’t play until the Nittany Lions joined the Big Ten Conference. In the series’ first meeting in 1993, Penn State won 38-31 at home in a battle of top-20 teams. The next year, No. 2 Penn State barely won again, this time 35-29 in Bloomington, Ind. Though the Hoosiers were close initially against the Lions, Indiana had to wait until 2013 for its first win against Penn State.
Both the Lions and Hoosiers play this upcoming Saturday before they face off on September 30. Penn State has a road game at Iowa in its Big Ten opener. Indiana has a nonconference game at home vs. Georgia Southern.
Penn State is 3-0 this season after beating Akron, 52-0, Pitt, 33-14 and Georgia State, 56-0. The Nittany Lions have won 12 of their past 13 games going back to last season. The streak started with a 29-26 overtime win against Minnesota and included a 24-21 upset of then-No. 2 Ohio State. The Nittany Lions went on to win the Big Ten Championship Game.
As for Indiana, the Hoosiers’ game this past week against Florida International was canceled because of Hurricane Irma. The Hoosiers then added Charleston Southern to their schedule for October 7. Indiana is 1-1 so far this season. The Hoosiers lost to Ohio State, 49-21, to begin the season on August 31 before winning at Virginia, 34-17.
