National Signing Day 2017 is history, but some schools might be tying up loose ends in their 2017 class. However, it’s safe to James Franklin and Penn State are focused solely on the class of 2018.
The Nittany Lions got commitments from two class of 2018 recruits Friday afternoon in 5-star running back Ricky Slade and 3-star linebacker Jesse Luketa.

Slade might be one of the biggest wins for Penn State, as the 5-star all-purpose running back is ranked by 247Sports as one of the best backs in the class of 2018. In fact, the Woodbridge, Va., native is listed by 247Sports as the No. 1 overall all-purpose back in the nation and the No. 1 overall prospect in the state of Virginia.
Luketa is a 3-star linebacker prospect who hails from Canada and is the 16th-best linebacker prospect in Canada. He joins fellow 3-star linebacker commit Charlie Katshir as linebackers who will join the Nittany Lions linebacking corps in 2018.
It should be noted that both commits are already making an impact, and they haven’t even played a down yet at State College. With commitments from Slade and Luketa, Penn State will have five of 247Sports composite’s top 100 players committed for 2018, which is huge for a program rising as fast as the Nittany Lions have the past year.
Penn State has 5 top-100 players in the @247Sports composite committed for 2018. PSU has signed 5 top-100 guys in the past 4 years combined.

Overall, Penn State now has 10 hard commits in the class of 2018 with the addition of Slade and Luketa. Slade becomes the second 5-star commitment, joining defensive end Micah Parsons as Penn State’s other 5-star commit.
