Penn State was almost off the field on third down after a Mitch Leidner pass fell incomplete.
But Curtis Cothran, in his first game of the season, hit the Minnesota quarterback high and got ejected for targeting. He’ll also be suspended for the first half against Maryland next week.
Cothran did hit Leidner high, but didn’t make a ton of contact with his helmet.
Last week against Michigan, LB Brandon Smith got flagged for targeting while trying to make a play on a low throw by QB Wilton Speight.
The Big Ten admitted several days later that it should not have been targeting.
Cothran, a redshirt junior, appeared in all 13 games last year. He made 15 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
