Rejoice, Penn State fans. Your favorite ice cream is coming to Beaver Stadium.
For the first time ever, Penn State will be selling Berkey Creamery ice cream at home football games during the 2017 season, the school announced Monday.
“We get a lot of people asking whether they can buy ice cream at our stands, and until now, we’ve always had to tell them to just go to the Creamery,” Penn State athletics concessions manager Eric Ebeling said in a press release.
Six flavors will be sold at Beaver Stadium during the 2017 season, including Peachy Paterno, a flavor named after former coach Joe Paterno. Vanilla, chocolate, Death by Chocolate, chocolate chip cookie dough and cookies ‘n’ cream will also be offered.
The Berkey Creamery is one of the most popular places for visitors on Penn State’s campus, especially on game days. It typically features a long line before and after home football games — a problem that could be helped by the new in-stadium scoops.
“It’s sort of a tradition to stand in that line,” Creamery assistant manager Jim Brown said. “But not everyone has the time or wants to do that for every football game. So we’re hoping that this will mean that everyone who wants our ice cream can get it every time they come to campus.”
The school said that about 25 flavors will be available at the stadium by next spring.
