Going into Penn State’s game against No. 2-seeded Ohio State in the Big Ten Tournament quarterfinal game, it seemed safe to assume that the Nittany Lions needed at least one more signature victory to help secure their bid into the NCAA Tournament.
By defeating the Buckeyes, the Nittany Lions picked up yet another top-25 victory — and their third over Ohio State this season. Penn State won on a dunk with 3.1 seconds remaining in regulation on Friday, advancing to the semifinal round.
The Nittany Lions also beat the Buckeyes without forward Mike Watkins, who averages 12.1 points and a team-high 8.9 rebounds per contest this season. He has missed the last three games for Penn State because of a knee injury and has been ruled out for the Big Ten Tournament.
Following the team’s win over Ohio State, Nittany Lions coach Pat Chambers talked about his team in regard to the NCAA Tournament.
"It shows we deserve to be in the NCAA tournament."

The entire interview can be seen above, but as Chambers said, “I think we defended and rebounded, which is our identity. We responded. We did the little things at the end to win the game. It shows that we deserve to be in the NCAA Tournament.”
Penn State is now 21-12 this season and will play Purdue at 4:30 p.m. ET in the semifinal round on CBS.
